The course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of network security, including compliance and operational security; threats and vulnerabilities; application, data, and host security; access control and identity management; and cryptography. The course covers new topics in network security as well, including psychological approaches to social engineering attacks, Web application attacks, penetration testing, data loss prevention, cloud computing security, and application programming development security. Through hands-on activities and case projects, students will be able to apply cybersecurity concepts they learn to real world scenarios. Readings, labs, and videos all support the readings and “In the News” assignments encourage students to stay current. Those seeking to pass the CompTIA Security+ certification exam will find the course approach and content especially helpful. All Security+ SY0- 501 exam objectives are covered in the course. 3 Cr Hrs. Course Requirement(s): OIS1240 must be taken before or concurrently with this course.
