This course provides an introduction to the field of mental and behavioral health counseling and treatment, including history and development of the field. Students will learn about service delivery, roles, trends, and career opportunities, and investigate principles and skills for developing professional clinical helping relationships. Ethical/legal/professional standards, and self-awareness regarding multicultural values and biases are emphasized, and mental health as a personal career choice is explored.
