HIT2000/Lecture/50 - HIT Legal Issues | Credits 2.00
The student will study the policies and procedures for processing health records as a legal document based upon legal and regulatory requirements. The importance of maintaining confidentiality of health information, access to information, transfer of health information, subpoenas for patient information, legal terminology and court systems, liability, and retention will be discussed. Students will learn about user access, logs and systems to track access to and disclosure of identifiable patient data, conduct privacy and confidentiality training programs, and how to investigate and recommend solutions to privacy issues and problems. Ethical standards of practice will be applied and promoted. 2 semester hours. Pre-requisite: HIT1200. Ohio TAG Course [OHL021].
