This course is an introduction to the field of nursing. The course is based on an integrated approach of basic nursing content that is patient/family centered. Special emphasis is placed on the beginning skills of the nurse. Content includes communication and interpersonal skills, infection control, safety, promotion of patient's independence, protection of and respect for patient's rights, psychosocial needs, and iteractions, and basic nursing, personal care, and restorative care skills. Critical thinking situations are an integral part of each class disscussion. The clinnical component of the course provides the student the opportunity to validate nursing skills and content for patients in a long-term facility. 2 semester hours. Pre-requisite: Formal acceptance into the Marion Technical College Nursing Program.
