This is the second in a series of two courses on Western Civilization. It begins during the mid Eighteenth Century A.D., on the eve of the French Revolution. This survey course will explore the most relevant events of the last 250 years, focusing on Europe and the Americas. This includes the Transatlantic Economy between Europe and the Americas during colonial times, as well as the Age of Enlightenment and its impact in philosophical and scientific thought. Although much of this course deals mainly with political and social events, special attention will be given to the development of the arts, architecture and humanistic thought, as these topics reflect and portray important historical trends. This course will cover the causes and consequences of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Era and the advent of Romanticism. The Industrial Revolution and its enduring impact in Western culture. This course will also cover the rise of Western Imperialism and the birth of modern European thought. This course will conclude with the Twentieth Century, and the two World Wars that defined it, as well as the Cold War era and the process of European decolonization. Credit hours: 3.
